New Acropolis Museum, Ancient Treasures Tour
The New Acropolis Museum opened in 2009 specifically to provide a home for the Parthenon sculptures (and to pressure the British Museum over the Elgin Marbles). The top floor gallery is oriented exactly parallel to the Parthenon visible through the glass walls. The originals that remain in Athens are displayed alongside casts of those in London, the argument made visible.
What you'll do
- Parthenon Gallery, friezes at original height
- View of the Acropolis through glass ceiling
- Caryatids, originals (not casts)
- Archaic Kore and Kouros figures
- Excavation visible through glass floors
